About SLAI
The Second Language Acquisition Institute UC Davis is dedicated to furthering our understanding of all facets of non-primary language acquisition - from theoretical and applied linguistics to foreign language pedagogy - through academic initiatives and financial support. These include:
- Maintaining ties with faculty and graduate students in the Designated Emphasis and Graduate Academic Certificate programs in SLA
- Sponsoring pre- and/or post-graduate fellowships to foster innovative research in language acquisition
- Organizing colloquia and inviting guest speakers to address current, cutting-edge research on language acquisition
- Spearheading efforts to improve undergraduate language instruction on campus, including the expanded use of technology
- Facilitating self-study of less commonly taught languages and developing proficiency exams in those languages
